Crystal Palace has expressed interest in signing England goalkeeper Sam Johnstone.
After West Brom announced on Tuesday that his contract would expire at the end of June, Johnstone will be a free agent this summer.
Several clubs have been keeping an eye on the 29-year-old, who are all aware that he is unlikely to sign new terms at The Hawthorns.
Tottenham was one of the clubs tracking Johnstone this summer in the hopes of bringing in a homegrown goalkeeper, but they instead went with Southampton’s Fraser Forster.
Johnstone, who has three England caps at senior level, is still attracting a lot of attention, and Crystal Palace is one of the clubs keeping an eye on him.
The Eagles have had a long-term interest in the goalkeeper, having scouted him when he was considering leaving Manchester United five years ago.
Johnstone spent a year on loan at Aston Villa before joining West Brom in the summer of 2018, but Palace have been keeping an eye on him ever since.
The Eagles’ current No. 1 is Vicente Guaita, but Johnstone could challenge him for the position in the long run.
Guaita, who turned 35 in January, is content at Selhurst Park right now, but has expressed a desire to return to Spain in the future.
“I’m very comfortable in the Premier League, it’s amazing how you live football here,” he told AS in April.
“I have less and less years left and I don’t know if I will have those years to be able to return to Spain.
“Speaking honestly, I would like to return to Valencia. I think I could have played for many years at Valencia.
“Being a Valencianista, leaving the club, how can I not want to return to Valencia?”
