Former Chelsea striker Diego Costa is on the verge of joining Wolves on a free transfer.
A rigorous medical must be passed before any deal with the former Chelsea star is finalized.
Since breaking his contract with Atletico Mineiro in January, the 33-year-old has been without a team.
Wolves, who are looking for a new striker after new arrival Sasa Kalajdzic — who only joined the club on deadline day — suffered an ACL injury on his debut, sidelining him for the majority, if not all, of the season, could be the team where he makes his comeback.
Costa was quickly identified as a result of their search; however, contrary to earlier speculation that he would first sign a trial deal with the team, it is now understood that he will instead be presented with a contract offer that will last through the end of the current campaign, subject to a thorough medical examination.
Since Costa hasn’t played a competitive game of football in over a year, there would understandably be concerns about his mental alertness. Costa’s fitness record during his time at Chelsea and Atletico Madrid wasn’t great. Wolves don’t want to find themselves in a situation where a new striker would need a lot of time to adjust.
Raul Jimenez is the only other senior centre forward for Wolves besides Darko Kalajdzic, despite the fact that players like Goncalo Guedes and Daniel Podence are capable of playing through the middle.
