Jimi Agbaje speaks on why we are struggling to patch potholes in Lagos

The Lagos governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Jimi Agbaje, has wondered why Lagos State is still struggling with patching potholes despite once having a larger economy than Nigeria.

Jimi Agbaje who will be running for the third time shared a series of tweets expressing his plans for the people of the state if elected into office.

He tweeted:

”Over the last week and a half since our #setlagosfree campaign kicked off, our message has been inspiring a movement of young and old people who are tired of the mediocrity that they see around them.

People are beginning to understand that, given the potential that we have in Lagos, we deserve better than we’re currently getting. How do you explain that the current size of Lagos’ economy is larger than that of Nigeria in 1999 and yet we are struggling to patch potholes.

There is something fundamentally wrong when in the midst of economic growth, we cannot say that our lives are better than they were 4 years ago. Now the ruling party would have you believe, that I have made this election about me, I cannot disagree more. I’m only a vessel.

I’m only a vessel for the thousands of Lagosians who have to drive to work everyday in terrible traffic caused by trucks that continue to block our streets and highways. You hear their pain when they call into radio shows asking to be heard yet nothing is done about the problem.

I’m only a vessel that understands that if we’re going to have a chance at transforming Lagos into the mega city of our dreams, it would require that we tap into the ingenuity of our people.

We limit our very potential to be great when we, willingly or unknowingly, outsource that responsibility to a few overlords to make decisions that will affect not just us but generations that come after us.

Government must be accountable. It must serve, not dominate. It must speak a little, listen plenty. I’ve have always wondered why the concept of the “Customer is always right” does not apply to this government. I want to lead a government where citizens are always heard.

In this election, we have a chance to change that balance in favour of the people. We have a chance to change this system that has taken the people for granted. We have a chance to make a statement that Lagosians will not be underestimated. That time is now.”
