Phumzile van Damme, a black south African Lawmaker has revealed how she reacted after she was racially abused by a man.
According to Democratic Alliance Lawmaker, she reacted by punching the man in self-defense.
Phumzile van Damme revealed that she has a row with a white woman at Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront which drew the attention of the man who intervened. According to her, the man who was white came “threatening violence” and yelled “you black”, urging her to get out.
The incident has forced an apology from V&A Waterfront, a top tourist site. Ms van Damme was left happy due to the treatment she received from an officer at the sure when she reported to. She also accepted the apology from the tourist site who promised never to tolerate the kind of act displayed by the white man. She, however, threatened to file charges with the police.
Narrating the incidence on twitter, Ms van Damme said she had a quarrel with a woman at the queue of a supermarket who allegedly said she would “push [her] aside”. “Then when I went out, she was standing there with her family in a threatening manner. And I went to her and said, ‘why are you looking at me in a threatening manner?’ Then she said, ‘it’s because you’re black’.
She added that the man who was with the woman, “was threatening violence so in self-defence I punched him in the head”.
