Raining bullets on bandits won’t solve banditry — Adamu Garba

Nigeria’s former presidential aspirant, Adamu Garba, said firing bullets on bandits won’t cure the security challenges affecting the country.

Garba said while reacting to the abduction of 300 Zamafara Government Secondary School Students by suspected gunmen.

In a long thread of tweets, Garba says until Nigeria deals with the root cause of banditry, the country might be continually hit by attacks from bandits.

Taking to his Twitter, he opined, “We can stay here and keep trending #RescueJangebeGirls (but) as long as we refuse to accept that the insecurity in the north is pushed by the high level of injustice by the northern elite against the ordinary people, not even (the) U.S. (United States) can fix this issue with bullets.

“It is on all available records that Boko Haram emerged 90% out of social neglect than ideology. It seems we haven’t learned a lesson.

“Instead of us trying and correct the problem, we went with state power to fight and kill. The government, yet again, thinks using bullets will solve banditry. Sad.

“The political elites can keep pretending. But as long as the deep level of neglect and injustice has reached a point of betrayal of trust, we may continue to witness security issues to the point where our armed forces will get tired. We must get into the mud and fix our problems.”

Recall that Kemi Filani had earlier reported that popular Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, Governor of Zamfara state, Bello Matawalle, and some other northern leaders are pushing a crusade of amnesty for bandits, negating combat force attack from military to clamp down the bandits.

In response to the comment, President Muhammadu Buhari said his administration would deal adequately with bandits and terrorists. He also affirms that there’s no amnesty for them.
