First Lady Aisha Buhari has made her first statement amidst reports of her husband getting married to a second wife.
President Buhari is reported to be getting married to Sadia Umar Farouq, the current minister for Humanitarian Affairs Disaster Management.
Since the report broke, the Presidency hasn’t issued any statement to prove its veracity. This has made many to believe the reports which say the wedding event between the president and Sadia would be lowkey.
Also, the absence of Aisha Buhari from public has buttressed the report which also claims she has been getting sidelined by a cabal.
However, the First Lady has now come out with a statement in celebration of the International Day of the Girl – Child in Abuja.
She called for protection of the girl child from abuse and violence.
She tweeted: “ Today, I join millions of girls around the world to celebrate this year ’ s International Day of the Girl – child . The theme for this year ’ s celebration is “GirlForce : Unscripted and Unstoppable ” she added.
She commended the progress made so far in women advocacy but state that more effort need to be put in place to watch protecting women and girls from abuse.
“ I am happy to note the progress that has been made in the area of activism by girls to protect their gender .
“ I want to state that more needs to be done especially to address gender – based violence which seems to be more pronounced recently and all hands must be on deck to achieve this. ”
